Broadchurch follows detectives DI Hardy (David Tennant), the anti-social jerk who arrives from out of town, and friendly local DS Miller (Olivia Colman) over three seasons as they solve cases involving a murdered child, and later, rape. Broadchurch is held up as the gold standard of small-town procedurals, examining how violent crime upends a community. The real reason to tune in is Colman and Tennant’s platonic chemistry, which is off the charts. Also, this was the breakout series for Olivia Colman in the U.S.
